New Fable Promises “Incredible Cast” and Plenty of British Humor, Says Director
Playground Games’ upcoming Fable reboot is set to feature an “incredible cast,” according to game director Ralph Fulton. In a recent interview, Fulton hinted that the game would continue the series’ tradition of collaborating with well-known actors, although he did not reveal any further names at this time.
“We’ve assembled an amazing cast for this game, and we’ll share more details about them in the near future,” Fulton told Xbox. “It’s in the spirit of the original Fable titles.”
Fulton added that the bar was set high by Lionhead’s original Fable games, whose star-studded voice casts made it a real challenge to match.
“We wanted to approach this in a similar way. Players will meet a fantastic lineup of characters throughout the main story,” he said.
The classic Fable series included notable talents such as Stephen Fry, Zoe Wanamaker, Alan Ford, Ron Glass, John Cleese, Michael Fassbender, Naomie Harris, Bernard Hill, Nicholas Hoult, and Ben Kingsley.
So far, Playground has confirmed that Richard Ayoade from The IT Crowd will appear in the new Fable, with more British actors expected to join the cast later.
“British humor plays a big role across the game,” Fulton explained. The game’s “Living Population” of over 1,000 characters will interact with players in a distinctively dry, British style.
The new Fable trailer already gives a taste of this, with a character calling the player a “rich twat”—an insult that has quickly caught attention on social media for its very British tone.
Additionally, the game will use a unique storytelling approach, where characters occasionally speak directly to the camera, reminiscent of the style seen in The Office.
The rebooted Fable is slated for release this fall on Xbox, PC, and PlayStation 5. Playground Games is also busy developing Forza Horizon 6, set to launch in May with a roster of over 500 cars.
